KDG spends the summer visiting all 45 of the commuter rail bridges operated by DTO here in Denver. We perform nondestructive testing on these bridges and monitor for identified defects. KDG documents these inspections using high-resolution images and creates an inspection report complete with recommendations for maintenance to assist in asset management. 

KDG provides yearly routine inspections for Denver Transit Operators 45 commuter rail bridges as well as multiple pedestrian bridges. KDG has been serving as the primary bridge inspection team for DTO since 2019. 

DTO Bridge Inspection

KDG's focus for this project was the rehabilitation of an existing retaining wall and the removal/replacement of multiple structures on site. The existing retaining wall was constructed at the incorrect elevation and required demolition and reinstallation of a new wall utilizing a soil nail construction. KDG worked closely with the geotechnical engineer on this project to collaborate on a design that best meets the DEN's needs. Our work on this project involved multiple site visits to determine existing conditions, structural design of multiple elements, creation and issuing of construction documents, and construction support. 

KDG, as a sub-consultant to JVIATION, a Woolpert company, provided structural engineering services for the project. The East Economy Parking Lot Rehabilitation project revitalized a much-needed area of the airport. The entire lot received a pavement overhaul, including installation of new drainage and the removal and replacment of multiple structures. 

The East Economy Parking Lot Overlay also won an award from ACPA.

KDG utilizes AASHTOWARE Software BrR to load rate existing minor bridges through Colorado. For more complicated structures that BrR cannot analyze, KDG uses Finite Element analysis to construct a virtual model of the existing bridge. These FEA models are then loaded with virtual trucks to determine forces and stresses within the bridge elements. Final load rating values are determined from the BrR or FEA analysis to determine if posting a bridge is required.  

As a Sub-Consultant to Benesch, KDG load rates Off-System and minor bridges throughout Colorado. These structures range from burined culverts to marquee bridges such as the Rainbow Bridg, the iconic timber arch bridge of Grand Lake

CDOT Off-System Load Rating

KDG Engineering performed an independent design check of the 266.5' long prestressed bulb tee bridge using the analysis software PS Beam, LEAP Concrete, and the substructure via LPile. KDG Provided valuable backchecking and feedback using the IFR plans created by BLN. After completion of the design and independent check, KDG utilized the AASHTOWARE software BrR to complete a load rating of the new bridge.  

Serving as a Sub-Consultant to Beams Longest Neff, KDG Engineering provided an independent design check and load rating for a new Prestressed Girder 2-span bridge. The new bridge carries Aerotrpolis Parkway. The improvements will provide much-needed additional connectivity to Denver International Airport with new interchanges on Interstate 70 and E-470.

A key element of the transportation network is a new interchange on I-70 along the proposed Harvest Road alignment, which was renamed Aerotropolis Parkway. This project will serve as a critical piece of the roadway network that will convey people and commerce to Denver International Airport and the adjacent Colorado Aerotropolis, a developing residential, commercial, and industrial community expected to create 170,000 new jobs.

KDG utilizes AASHTOWARE Software BrR to load rate existing bridges through Colorado. For the historical structures, KDG worked closely with CDOT Staff Bridge to determine appropriate analysis techniques and assumptions based on as-built plans from the 1930s and beyond.

KDG spends two to three weeks yearly visiting all 45 of the commuter rail bridges operated by DTO here in Denver. We perform nondestructive testing on these bridges and monitor for identified defects. KDG documents these inspections using high-resolution images and creates an inspection report complete with recommendations for maintenance to assist in the asset management.

KDG, as a sub-consultant to JVIATION, a Woolpert company, provided structural engineering services for the project. The United Airlines RAPP project consisted of a massive Civil Engineering undertaking over a large area of the Denver International Airport. KDG designed multiple underground structures for this project, including foundations for 120' Light Poles and 10'x10' inlets.
